Continuous Improvement & Lean Program

Our Sustainable Continuous Improvement Program (Lean) is an innovative program that can deliver significant and lasting cultural change to organisations. Our proven strategy is to use Lean Thinking and tools to engage the hearts and minds of your employees, involving them heavily in the change management process. LCS will partner you in developing a culture among your workforce that is ready and willing to accept change and one that is committed to continuous improvement. With appropriate management support, our approach can change the culture of your organisation. The diagram below illustrates nicely the extent and intent of the SCIP.

Many continuous improvement/quality initiatives fail because they try to spread themselves too thin and do not devote the necessary attention to detail in each area that is required. Our 'Area of Excellence' strategy ensures that available resources match the expected activity level in each area.

The Lean approach to business efficiency includes a number of toolsets, techniques, methods and approaches which we will utilise appropriately depending on the demands of your business. We commonly use the following in the assessment and the implementation of business improvement:

  • Value Stream Mapping - current and future state
  • Assessment of Lean Wastes
  • Assessment of 5S
  • Developing Kaizen (continuous improvement) events (or improvement projects)
  • Kanban (signal) system – use of a signalling system to make sure that activities are executed when they need to be to make sure the workflow continues
  • Just in Time – optimisation of the production facility to produce only what, when and how much is required
  • Poka Yoke (Error Proofing) – a focus on some of the Kaizen events could be to eliminate some major causes of errors, rework and effort required. A particular activity may have a higher than normal rate of errors
  • SMED – Single Moment Exchange of Die. SMED is a process used to reduce set up times.

Using the above approaches, we can analyse the current characteristics of your organisation, determine the future desired state and put in place an action plan to implement the desired improvements.

5S - Get Organised Create Certainty

The implementation of 5S is considered a key initiative as it tends to underpin all other continuous improvement initiatives. This is because the disciplines required by each person to make 5S work ensure that other continuous improvement interventions will also stick when introduced.

Put another way, if 5S cannot be sustained, then it is unlikely that other improvements or manufacturing disciplines will be sustainable.

Client Testimonial

Lean Manufacturing, in particular Value Stream Mapping, conducted with the necessary tools to ensure employee engagement for quick and encouraged implementation, has been remarkably effective in our plant. Results against initial targets have been successful together with many other windfalls developed by the employees through the teams and 5S processes.

We fully recommend this method of implementing VSM and Lean Manufacturing to the Textile Industry.
